As the United Arab Emirates (UAE) strives to rejuvenate its tourism sector following regional disruptions, it has received a boost from New Zealand in the form of a relaxed travel advisory. New Zealand has downgraded its travel warning for the UAE from a Level 3, which advised against non-essential travel, to a Level 2, urging travelers to exercise increased caution.
This adjustment allows New Zealanders greater freedom to travel to or transit through the UAE, provided they stay alert and adhere to local guidance as security situations may evolve. Richard Kay, New Zealand’s Ambassador to the UAE, expressed his approval of the change, emphasizing the opportunities for New Zealanders to visit or pass through the country once again.
The update comes as the UAE records a significant recovery in its tourism metrics, notably in Dubai. In August, Dubai welcomed 869,000 international overnight visitors, the highest monthly figure since February. Hotel occupancy rates in the city also showed remarkable improvement, rising to 66 percent in August from 36 percent in March.
Efforts to remove travel restrictions from other countries are ongoing as the UAE aims to bolster its tourism and aviation sectors. Several nations have already taken steps to amend their advisories, though some still recommend increased caution or advise against non-essential travel.
With the easing of New Zealand’s travel advisory, there is optimism that travel demand between the two nations will grow, further aiding the UAE’s tourism recovery initiatives.
